Default 95 XJS conv 4.0 wheel specs

Hello all. I just got my new 95 conv with wire wheels, presumably Daytons. I hear a noisy right rear which could be a wheel, or maybe bearing, U joint etc. I just got the car so I have not even had it on jacks yet. I drove it home (4 hours) and other than high idle at times(100-1200) and soft shocks, it drove well. I fear I will need to by 4 solid wheels as I don't have a good feeling about the wires that are on it. I will swap in a spare and retest to see if the noise was the wheel or something else. (Too cold now) One or two have flaking chrome on the center hubs and the creaking could be spokes on the right rear.
Question, are the Daytons or wires in general something I should invest in fixing, keeping? or trade up to solids? if so what was the original wheel for that year and model Size? Bolt pattern, width? etc. if there is a place here I could find this, I can look it up. I want to research available wheel options for this car in case the wires are shot.
Thanks

Wire wheels are generally heavy, flexible and weak. There were 2 versions of Daytons, 60 spoke and 72 spoke. The 60 spoke were recalled for not being strong enough.

I personally would go for alloy wheels in place of the wires. The standard wheels were either a 16" 20 spoke diamond turned for the V12 cars (the same as the Vanden Plas and XJ12 for 1996) or a 5 spoke. See the brochure here: Jag-lovers brochures - a USA XJS Brochure for 1995

Replaced Aftermarket Wheels

Aftermarket wheels

My 95 coupe had aftermarket 5 spoke wheels. They looked good but I wanted stock wheels. I am somewhat of a purest, if the factory spent a bunch of money testing wheel and tire combinations for the given suspension they built it with who am I to question their research??? here are two picks of mine with each wheel.

It is all a matter of what you want, good luck and welcome to the forum.

My '94 was similar when I bought it, the wire Daytons. Mine were in bad shape, not maintained, caused bad shaking while driving. When I replaced them, it solved 80% of the shaking problems. So, look over the Daytons and if they don't look maintained, move on from them - sold them on eBay to someone who could put themtime and effort into fixing them.

Anyway, check out my solution: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...update-174218/

I like the factory '95 XJS 5 spoke wheel that was available in chrome as a upgrade. I have also seen the '95 to '97 XJR and XJ6 wheel used on the '95 along with the XK8 wheel package. There is also a good deal of aftermarket wheels available but important to make sure offset is correct. As has already been stated risky using an older wire wheel that can be rusted where the spoke attaches to the outer rim. Congrads on your new to you '95.

I will show a few photos of my two 1995's with the factory 5 spoke in chrome which is my personal favorite :

One good thing about factory wheels, you can use the tire tools that came with the car. My aftermarket wheels required a deep socket and breaker bar to change wheels. The spare was a factory wheel with a set of lug bolts. The aftermarket wheels had different lug bolts and were not compatible with the factory wheels.

I'm kind of a purist too, especially if the solution is beneficial. I do like the aftermarket wheels you show but agree about having to use different tooling to carry just for them. I am still pouring over the car and found the spare being the factory wheel for 95. I didn't measure or look at the size but I'm assuming 16". I am also beginning to agree with most of you on dumping the Daytons as I mentioned the center hub chromes are flaking on a few of them. There is enough on the car to maintain where i don't need another area like wheels to have to pour $$ into. So now on the hunt for a set of stock 95 wheels out there.
Anybody local want to trade their 95 wheels for a set of 72 spoke Daytons?

Here's a good site with specs and stock rim options for a 95:

1995 Jaguar XJS Rims, 1995 Jaguar XJS Wheels at OriginalWheels.com

Yes I did. Just replied to that thread.
Sorry didn't acknowledge it. Had a few threads open and missed it.
Thanks for the helpful response. I have a bit of research to do and still learning where everything is on this model.

I sold them 3 years ago to an XJS owner rebuilding an early model with the 15" wheels. The Borbet wheels were 16" and 6.5" wide with the correct offset. The stock wheel is only 6" wide.
