I believe you have to disconnect the support struts, and perhaps lay a protective towel to ensure the grill doesn't damage the front bumper and vice-versa.

Hi usaf

On my 1989 and my 1990 XJS V12's I just undid the Bonnet/Hood Struts and then pulled it up 'almost vertical' with a rope that was tied to a Tree.

You just have to be careful not to crush the 'Grill' while doing so.

It's not intended to do this. If you disengage the two hydraulic lifts, you'll be able to get the hood to 90 degrees, however, there won't be anything to keep the hood there, unless you have someone willing to hold it.

Hi Jonathan

I tried removing the Grill on mine but the Screws were such a pain to undo, I felt it would be better just to leave it in place and then pull it up as vertical as I felt that it needed to be without crushing the Grill.

What job are you doing that requires the extra clearance? Just curious.
You don't want to cause an extra problem for something that isn't necessary.
Next thing you have a loose grill or bent edge on the hood.
Careful...
