ABS Light Investigation Mystery
So I am beginning the process of troubleshooting the cause for the ABS light on my 96 XJS.
I followed the lines leaving the brake fluid reservoir when I came across this peculiar feature. There is a gasket that seems to be hanging out. It seems to have come from the brass part just upstream from it.
The parts and lines were all grungy with old caked over stuff. I wiped it all off with a towel. Nothing substantial, and nothing recent seems to have come off. Nothing was "wet".
Not sure if this is a problem, but I thought I'd bring it in for a little show and tell. (I'm not even sure what that brass part does)
Thanks.

The ABS light has not come back on since I cleaned up that line (although I doubt that did anything) and fiddled with the connection to the ABS pump (which I think did do something)
I'll probably go back in there and spray some Deoxit on the contacts this wekeend.
I'll post back if I ever do have a problem. I was ready to start doing some testing, but it seems that is no longer necessary.

I've run across that "O" ring business on the brake line a few times over the years, still have no idea how they ended up there. The item in the brake line is a pressure reduction valve, it's what lowers the pressure to the rear brakes so they don't lock up way ahead of the fronts.
I suspect you haven't seen the last of the ABS warning. Probably will have to have the electronic module repaired. I have posted a document showing how a couple of years ago. Search the Forum for Teves MkIV ABS Repair and you should find it.
Good luck!

But before you jump in there, probably ought to make SURE that is the problem. That requires having faults read and confirm a C1095 fault has occurred. That is highly likely, but there are other possibilities.
Good luck!

Well I finally spent the weekend fixing this part. The ABS sensor was still lighting up on occasion, no real rhyme or reason. I'm not sure if that was the problem, but, hey, I spent a few hours over the weekend with it and spent zero dollars. (Had a small tube of RTV already in my closet!)
I'll come back and update this thread if the light indeed does come back...

I took it to the dealer across the street from where I work and he wanted it for a few days for diagnosis.
I said, "Sure, I'll be back after the weekend."
They will never see me there again.

I've reached out to three different shops. So far two have responded with the "we can read it, but we don't rely on it to provide a diagnostic"
What's strange now is that I just drove the car again and the light is still on...its never done that before. Usually it goes out.
