Default Alternative bearing for AC compressor tensioner arm?

Hey guys.

I normally don't like to be a cheap skate with parts. Only the best is good enough for me. But I don't see what the bearing for the AC-tensioner-pulley is supposed to be €119 plus VAT for something quarter the size of a smaller Frankfurter sausage. I mean, the fan bearing is larger and costed less as it was avaialbe new...

Are there any alternatives people know of readily available?

Cheers

Damien

Are there any numbers on the bearing? Usually industrial suppliers are a lot cheaper, assuming it's a standard bearing.

It's a stupid RHP bearing. RHP FPS 380 IIRC. It is in the garage and currently quite cold at the moment.

I know I saw someone replace this bearing years back in the archives, either this forum or JagLovers. With two sealed bearing and a spacer in the middle.

Bearings are all pretty standardized. You should easily be able take measurements and find a replacement on somewhere like McMaster Carr

Not in the XJ-S. I think no bearing is standard...

Perhaps.

But, ask your self. Did Jaguar make that bearing? Probably not.
did jaguar create the idler and then create spec's for an outside vendor to custom make it ? Nope, cost too much. So, did the vendor merely take one that fit from their stock that fit and fill the order. Likely .
Did the purchase staff merely go over vendor catalogues and find one. Possible.

So, in the grand scheme of things, that bearing or one that fits exists.

One place I might look is the spec's for a clutch pilot bearing or alternator bearing.

Yes, but now think of this: Jaguar was one of the last car builders to use bearings from RHP... And RHP has since thinned their product range out an awful lot... Current bearings are 'left over stock' as it seems. Try and find a once standard bearing for the fan pulley. Okay, as most ditch that anyway in favor of electrical fans, but still. Standard RHP bearing back in the day. Nowaday unobtanium.
