Alternator Cable 95 4.0
Hello all,
my alternator cable terminal snapped of when replacing the alternator ….
Can anyone please tell me where/what the alternator cable connects to ??I am having a miserable time trying to unravel in thru the engine. Also , I am assuming any generic auto store alternator cable will work? And how tight should the alternator belt be ?
NOTE: the original alternator is 120 the new one is 200
thanks for any help

I got the cable out, it goes to the starter….but if anyone could help me with my two remaining main issues I would be infinitely grateful
1- HOW TIGHT SHOULD MY ALTERNATOR BELT BE
2- MY NEW ALTERNATOR IS 200 AMp ( the original is 120AMP) ……SHOULD I ORDER A OEM REPLACEMENT CABLE OR SHOULD I GET SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR THE NEW ALT?
thanks!!
I'm sure there is a write-up in some Jaguar manual but it really isn't that technical.
You want it to be tight enough so it doesn't flap AT ALL, but not too tight or it will ruin the bearings.
Tighten the belt so you can't deflect it more than about 1/4 inch.
I've been doing it like that for about 60 years and have not damaged any bearings.

so I installed the 200 amp alternator, and changed the broken cable that runs from the alternator to the starter with a 4 gauge auto parts store generic cable
So I just drove the car in the horrid 100 + weather for an hour with some traffic: A/C running, aftermarket AuX fan running
-the charging light went of, which was a relief
-a demonic squealing that I had been having at start up and also while driving with the a/c was gone
- when I parked back in my garage, I did not notice any of the battery cables or the cables under the hood to be unusually hot .
I think this alternator is going to work well for me.
thanks all for your help

the alternator I got says “made in the USA”
now if that’s true, or if that means the affixed the “made in the USA” sticker here and everything else was made abroad, idk
