Anyone want a free 86 Jaguar XJS??
If you know how to paint cars......looks like this guy is willing to part with his for free. Not a bad deal if you're handy and are in the market for one if you ask me.

He wants his crown vic painted and a windshield replaced in exchange for an xjs with problems, don't know how much you know about replacing windshield and painting cars but that is not getting an xjs for free. That ends up paying a plenty by the time you buy materials and factor in labor.

Wow, ad has been up for 13 days and still no takers.
Imagine if that was an E type. Gone in the first hour.
In any case, I bought an XJS recently and even though it is in fine shape, I probably overpaid....and if I can't resolve the brake problem I'll probably just part it out to get out from under it.
But this post is another example showing that these cars, if they have any problem whatsoever, are not valued very much in today's market.
I'm really a Mercedes person (not that there is anything wrong with Jags, beautiful cars) and the same thing is true with the 107 series SLs. Not really collectible, unlike the two previous models they replaced. And from the looks of things, they never will be collectible.

I don't know. Back then, you couldn't give away an E-Type, had a similar reputation as the XJS (hard to work on, unreliable). Most of them just ended up getting crushed or rotted away. Because they started to become rare, their prices started to go up. And the more their prices went up, the more in demand they became, making it a vicious cycle.
That being said, I just have to wait until you guys get rid of yours so mine will go up in value!

I don't know about the comment on the E type. They started becoming collectible not very long after production ended. In my view, they were a fine looking automobile, especially the early convertibles.
The newest XJSs are now almost 20 years old and still no real move up in price, especially when you take inflation into account.
But that's just my view and I'm certainly not a Jag expert like you folks are.
I remember when the XJS came out and I wasn't too impressed. Now I do like the convertibles that came out later.
I did get a sight unseen offer for 1400, not that it means anything, so that's a step in the right direction but it doesn't look like I'll be able to break out even on my purchase. I still hope to figure out the brake problem if a Jag enthusiast doesn't end up buying it.

The S3 has gone up in value. And quite a bit. When I was 20 in 2003 a perfectly restored S3 convertible could be had for 30k-35k ...... Today you'll be hard pressed to find a rough S3 coupe for less than 50-60.

Mark, big difference on what a S3 E-type convertible will fetch over the coupe. I have seen a uptick on the asking price of the S3 coupe but have not seen demand following this. I have a good friend here in the Boise area who could not sell his 1973 S3 coupe for 22K and his car only had 35K miles and very very nice condition. Seems like when the economy heated up and the E type prices started going up again a lot of the S3 coupe owners tried to cash in but not sure a lot of takers.
I am seeing the same situation on the XJS only in reverse of the E-type. With the E type the most demand and hence higher prices are with the earliest S1 version but with the XJS the opposite is happening. The demand and hence pricing on the XJS is on the latter convertibles and 6.0L etc. I am not seeing a uptick on early coupes with the 5.3L V-12-some will start high on asking prices but if you track the cars you will see the asking price continue to drop. Heck a 1986 coupe just came up for sale here in Boise for $ 1495.00 and it appeared to be very clean and well taken care of.
