Best Injectors?
I'm replacing my injectors, piping, etc., to the fuel rail. The injectors that are currently installed, I think, are Bosch 280 250 161. What is the best fuel injector with a fine spray pattern? I found a Bosch kit with the last number different from my car, a 1989 5.3L HE V12. The number on the new injector is 280 250 162. Does anyone know what the difference is between the two part numbers? Who sells a good injector harness?
163 is listed for HE UP TO 2/90 BUILD DATE.
I cannot find 162 in my Catalogue, BUT, it is Bosch Australia Catalogue, and your market is different, Emissions, Comp Ratio. etc.

Ones on my car are 0280150161. In my notes I have them listed as 196 cc/min 2.4ohm (can't remember exactly where this figure came from)
I'm sure I saw a big table of all the Bosch injector specs somewhere; in theory you can interchange ones that are similar enough in spec.

You sure aboiut the 063 Grant - I have a copy of said 'big table' from Bosch but system won't let me post a file here, there is no reported difference between the 161 and 162, same cc/min and same resistance. There is no 062 and this is a Bosch table - it steps from 060 to 063, those two are way outside any suitable specs for the Jag - 6.7 ohm and 1.3 ohm,. 714 and 1212 cc/min so 063 doesn't seem right - 163 perhaps ? - the table really doesn't offer any clues what the physical differences are.

Spray pattern on either 161 or 162 is poor by todays standards but it isn't helped by the pressure that these are run at on the V12 HE - too low in my opinion, was done as part of the emissions and economy drive - less pressure = less fuel.

I have seen on eBay that some people are selling 4 hole versions of these older Bosch injectors, rather than the single pintle version XJS has. Supposedly better spray pattern/better atomisation, but from the listings it doesn't look like the spec matches those on XJS.Also a bit nervous where they are sourced from - there is a whiff of 'unofficial china reproduction' on some of them.

FWIW my feeling is that more modern injectors operated by the OEM fuelling system will give no gain. The injectors are fired in batches of three, so there is no question of timing the fuelling to the inlet valve operation. I highly doubt that a four hole spray pattern would make any difference to MPG or performance.
Now a 100% modernised system including ECU etc etc (à la Mobec, for example) might make an improvement in MPG; as to torque and BHP, compared with a perfect OEM setup, I would be surprised if anything above a 5% gain was possible in any parameter including MPG. A manual gearbox would be the most effective performance and MPG mod, I believe.
Mind you, there is someone on the forum who is going the whole modernisation hog, so we will learn at some point what difference a totally up to date, rolling road optimised, system makes. I am happy to be proven wrong!

Only thing I'm missing right now is the manifolds, and I don't believe the larger throttle bodies account for the performance gain ... 285 to 349 with significant torque gains -
This car uses the same Emerald K6+ and injector setup that I am, it uses the 6.0 fuel rails (I do not) mine are custom as is delivery and regulation ... but for anyone thinking about this you'd better have deep pockets.

Don't think I haven't thought about it but my next hit will be the transmission - I really want to get a ZF 6 speed in there - make better use of the horses, the days where I think manual is best are long gone - but a manual would be better than the three speed slush box,
