Default Bra?

Before I make my cross country run with my new paint, I was thinking of fitting a bra or some adhesive clear plastic.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

You should probably be ok without it, as winter has not started and there isn't the sand and salt on the roads yet.

I have seen the fabric bras flaps in the wind and wear away the paint in places, so you're probably better off without that. The 3M clear film certainly works, but isn't cheap. The problem with the low sloping bonnet of the XJS is where do you stop? There is very little that is somewhat vertical. It's expensive, so covering the whole bonnet wouldn't be cheap. If you ever want to do concours it's a major deduction as well.

Cheap solution: clay bar and ChemicalGuys jetseal (nano hydrophobic skin) applied by hand.

$1000 solution: clear wrap/ceramic coating

one is 50 bucks max, the other is not both last a while. If you have money to burn the bra skin is nice but not super necessary, a few layers of jetseal and a ceramix wax on top will do.

The first road trip in my car after a new paint job, a truck in another lane threw up a rock that glanced off the hood and hit my windshield so hard I thought it would crack or shatter. Fortunately, the windshield was fine, but there was chip on the hood. Point being, I think a cross country run is begging for some protection. You don't need a permanent or long term solution, just one for the trip. There are temporary products designed for that:

Amazon Amazon

Just bought this last night. Checked with my paint guy today while were buffing and waxing. He likes it.

That doesn't give me a ton of confidence.
Wouldn't something that you roll on leave the surface looking like a back yard paint job?
One of the most amazing things about my 94 coupe was the super flat paint surface.

It peels off pretty easily. My paint guy and I did a nano coating over the paint, and applied a test of this.

So now my bonnet is covered with clear baby vomit. I will still use blue painters tape on the leading edge of the bonnet
