Default Break a window....or ?

1993 coupe.
I was trying to sort out the broken drivers door locking system when the passenger door closed. Handle moves but wont open the door. Shyte.....
I tried the central locking but the system just double beeps. The bonnet/hood is open, will that show as fault ?
So options to get in... break a window or ???

There was something I read that you can remove the outside mirror and trip the door lock through the hole…
Might try depressing the hood switch and then try the central locking.

The 93 coupe windows have no frame, so slipping a coat hanger thru to the lock lever should not be too hard. Or call a locksmith. A lot cheaper than breaking a window. They'll likely use an airbag to gap the window from the seal, and trip the lock lever from there.

I had a similar issue once with my 94 coupe.
What I found is that the door was not completely closed.
I pushed the door closed and that fixed the issue.

If you have a AAA membership, they will send someone out who can "break into" your car. They'll likely use either a "slim jim" or a device that looks like a blood pressure cuff to create a gap large enough for them to get to the interior latch.

Thanks guys. The windows on the coupe go up into a channel so its not as easy to force the window outwards. I know that the driver door handle is not connected and now it seen neither is the passenger door handle.
Its very hard here on the states to get a window fitter to come and just take out the screen. I wanted to fix the usual rust around the frame. I heard that they only will take out the glass if they put a NEW ONE back in... or its too much of a liability ???? wtf. I have one guy that wants photos so he can decide ...!!!!
Jeeeeez. wish we could go back to a simpler time when stuff just got done. lol

I the rear window easier to take out ?

You said a 93 coupe. If it's a 93, it should be a frameless side window, since it's a facelift coupe. You sure you didn't mean 83?
The rear side windows on either a pre-facelift or facelift coupe are very difficult to remove.
In any event, call a locksmith. They have ways to get into any car door. Nothing special about the XJS.

Malc,

Don't even think about taking out a screen out! Or the rear side windows. On a facelift car with frameless door glass, it's pretty easy to get around the side of the door glass, that's the way to get access to get to the door lever.

Good luck

Paul

You don't have to remove anything or break anything, cars aren't that hard to get into if you have the right tools and skills.

A quick search on yelp for "car lockout" will yield plenty of 5 star rated locksmiths and emergency roadside mobile mechanics who can do the job. One listed in the Orlando area listed lockout service as a $60 job.

Thank all.
As the linkage on both doors from the handle to the latch are broken and the internal door handle is impossible to operate from outside, I took the decision that the easiest and cheapest solution to get to the door latch mechanism was to Dremel the bottom and the right side off of the handle and push it inside to expose the latch. I now need to find all the plastic bits and linkages to repair both doors, another handle and away we go.
