Default Bumper removal

Hello all! I'm trying to pull the front bumper from my '83, and the two bolts holding the impact bar to the gas shocks are stuck on there pretty well. Is there any trick to getting them out through the top of the bar? Or do I actually have to remove the shocks with the bar? thanks so much in advance.

No energy absorbing on my xjrs but as far as l know you should be able to remove the nuts on the inner end of the struts and slide them out of their housings along with bumper complete.

I didn't think I could get a socket back far enough. I'll give it a shot in the morning! thanks!

The absorbers are mounted in a tube in the chassis about 6 inches long. Like Baxtor my car does not have the absorbers, but the tube can be clearly seen in the attached photo LHS of shot. Access to the back of the tube is needed, and this will need the undertray to be removed, at least.
It might be easier to cut the fixings off that attach the absorber to the bumper bracket, if you can get to them. good luck
Greg
