Default A/C refrigerant leak

The Shooting Brake A/C went out, I think I found the source...

Problem was caused by my modifications to the A/C lines (I used several universal A/C lines with the E/Z clip system and didn't adequate support the high side line between engine and fender well. Probably made worse by my bending of the line to help it line up during installation. Oh well, live and learn...

That looks like the daft muffler thingy. If it is, just get rid of it, there will be no difference.

Agree with Greg , that part is the so called silencer fitted to Harrison air conditioning compressor, later models with Sanden or similar don't have that part.
Plays no part in function of air conditioning

People have reported removing them with no increase in noise If you get a hydraulic shop to make a straight line to replace it, you won't have to worry about support.

Well sh*t, shoulda posted this before and gotten this sage advice before I bought a replacement.

Whatevs, replaced the line, bought a set of AC manifold gauges and taught myself how to vacuum and charge the A/C.

Where did you rent the vacuum pump? There used to be an AutoZone that rented one a few years back. Apparently no more.

If you have a decent compressor and don't wanna spend $100 on a vacuum pump, harbor freight sells a venturi to pull vacuum using your compressor $20 or so.
