Default Check engine light intermittent when I press brake pedal

Anyone come across this before? 95 XJS 4.0 2+2 90K. Runs like a Swiss watch. Plenty of power. Seems to happen during cooler temps. Cruising along, press brake pedal for stop sign, light, etc., check engine light comes on for a few seconds then off. Intermittent. Sometimes doesn't do it. My local Jag guru has never seen or heard of it. Anybody?

Don't know for sure, but it might be a poor ground in the instrument panel. Run an extra ground wire to the chassis and see what happens.

Hi XJS Houston

Have you Checked the level of the Brake Fluid, as it could be the Low Level Brake Fluid Warning Light that's coming on

Is it actually when you press the brake pedal or are you coincidentally pressing the brake pedal just as you decelerate. Does it come on when you decelerate but not press the brake brake? Does it come on when you are just sitting and press the brake?

It's just when I press the brake pedal whether decelerating or simply coming to a stop. Does not come on while sitting still with depressed brake. Only when slowing down and only for a couple of seconds at a time.

Also, to answer Orangeblossom below, when it first happened, I thought immediately it must be the brake warning light coming on, but as soon as it happened again, noticed it was definitely the check engine light. Not the brake light.

If the Engine Light actually comes on, the ECU should store a pending code. Finding out what that pending code is might help you pinpoint the issue.

This sounds like a classic earthing or cluster flexible problem to me.
