Default Convertible top stored position

Couldn't find any info on this, perhaps someone can help. New to me 1996 XJS. The top does not seem to be fully retracting, seems like it needs to retract another inch or two. The boot cover does not fit on without a real struggle. Seems like the arms need to go down just a little more. I know the previous owner had the drive motor replaced. Any thoughts. Thanks

Hi EJ Garity

This is a very common problem on these Cars of 95/96 Vintage, as the Soft Top seems to catch on the back of the seats, so I have to feed it in a bit at a time

Same problem on my 1995 but since there's not much you can do, I've learned to live with it

Good advice. On my 94 and 95, the leather at the edge of the back of the rear seat is worn and nicked because of this problem, more on the left side.

Wonder if there is an adjustment to the arms to allow more clearance?

I would check to make sure there isn’t a way to lower the backseat backrest.
