Default Cooling Fans

I have a friend who has a 1989 XJS V12 and is looking for help with improved cooling. Does anyone have any experience with the following product " CatCooler™ Very High Flow
Twin Electric Cooling Fans System"? He is hesitant to purchase this product without getting a recommendation from users.

Welcome to the forum vw1947,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help section to the XJS section. If the product is any good on the V12, the guys here will know.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New member Area - Intro a MUST section and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice on posting to the forum.

Yes, in my opinion they work much better than the original mechanical fan. My only problem with them is the cost. I replaced mine with a high flow electric fan from Advanced Auto Parts and used the factory fan shroud. It works incredibly well and cost me about $100.

I agree with thermo fans, had them for many, many years on all our V12's (4), and never looked back.

BUT, and there is always a BUT.

The radiator and associated components must be CLEAN, and by that I mean the radiator out of the car, and professionally cleaned internally and externally, new rad hoses, and I mean ALL the hoses (heaps of them), and new thermostats installed correctly.

If he is having cooling issues now, them thermo fans will only "bandaid" the underlying issues for a short time.

I do NOT want to scare you, I dont do that, but fact is fact.

Overheat a V12 engine, and $6000+++ will exit your bank instantly.

All the above is MY opinion based on MY cars over 40+ years with Jaguar.

WELCOME aboard, I nearly forgot the most important bit. I need a drink, its nearly mid day.

I have just put in twin thermo fans with a separate transmission cooler from V12s.com, great build quality and easy to install.
My only concern was the length of time it took for to be delivered. 5 months! I am in Australia but it only took 5 days for shipping.

In my experience the stock XJS radiator is well up to keeping the V12 cool even in 40+degC heat. As Grant said earlier the system must be cleaned. I re-cored my radiator replaced the thermostats and hoses and had no problems with overheating.

Stock new fan and fan clutch, new thermostats with jigglers, coolant filters and an aluminum radiator. Never a problem even in 100+ degree weather.

Here is my thread on converting to used BMW pusher fan: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-budget-91187/
However, as stated above, I had my radiator re-cored, waterpump, hoses and thermostats replaced. Even with no fans, my car could run for 30 minutes at idle and never go above 50% on temp dial. I drove it to lunch and back few times, with no fans and had no trouble with overheating.
I think original fan design is sufficient and the only reason why I converted was that I wanted to remove 2 belts and not to spin that useless fan all the time.
