Default Crank Windows

I've seen in an old racing video an XJS with crank windows. I'm guessing the rules of whatever class it was called for a full interior and operable windows but allowed electric to manual conversion. Has anyone converted to manual windows? Mine don't work right and I'd be happy to save a little weight and maybe some cost going with the hand cranked variety instead of fixing the electric ones. I searched the forum, but didn't find anything.

I used to have a 1981 MBZ c280 with rusted out window motors, and replacements were very hard to find. So I removed them, and attached leather straps to the regulator with eyelets cut into them. Bought some stainless grommets and attached them to the doors and rear quarters on the inside. This allowed me to lower and raise the windows in increments. Saved some weight too.

Define 'don't work right' ?

mine didnt until I cleaned the toggles with cleaner and a brush, I forget what exactly it was but there is some odd way they supply power to the motor via the switch and long story short 9 times out of 10 its just the button and nothing else causing issues.

Someone more knowledgable on that will be able to offer a better description lol...

I changed the switches for some cheap new ones. Both motors are getting power. Left one spins and makes a clashing gear sort of noise. Window does not move as a result, but I can get it up and down pushing it with my hands. Right one needs manual assistance to get up, goes down on its own. I haven't investigated further at this point because there are more pressing issues with this car and my other one.
