Default Marelli rotor thoughts?

Came across this old Marelli rotor. Obviously it has suffered!

However......

I was pondering something......

The burning doesn't really seem that bad on this one; not burned clear through; I've seen worse.. And the center area, not seen in this pic, is OK. Is the rotor positively condemned? Can it somehow be salvaged? Reused?

Might first inclination was to simply toss it in the bin. And that's probably where it belongs. But since it is an original, true Marelli....maybe not?

Anyhow, I have no use for it. If someone here wants it, just give a shout and I'll drop it in the mail

Cheers
DD

If it were mine, and being an original, I would try some repairs with JB Weld. Nothing to lose really.

I repaired a Lucas one I knackered, way back, and its still in the PreHE.

I was thinking about JB Weld myself. It's "The Mechanic's Best Friend", after all

I'd like it for the purpose of building a 3D printed (quality) replica. You can even have it back when I'm done.

electricity is lazy , a bit like me as i am an electrician ,

it will always find the path of least resistance, this demonstrates how the spark will find a path to ground if its intended path is obstructed in some way , this can be as spark plugs and or poorly HT leads by way of high resistance (more than designed ),

a lot of observers will blame the rotor for failing, i say its the other parts of the ignition system making the rotor contacts seek another path to ground causing carbon tracking on the rotor arm , then once established the carbon track can be more attractive to the spark than the HT lead and spark plug ,

this goes for any make or brand of car....

a good idea to always keep genuine Marelli components, even if just for reference ,

very generous to post out to another member

stay safe

Out of interest what's wrong with the non-genuine Marelli cap/rotor's that are available?

There's nothing "wrong" with them. They fit and do the job. Personally, I've not heard of any actual problems coming as a result of using them.

But the true Marelli parts are much higher quality
