Question Cruise control - upgrade

Hey guys,
I have the speed control fuse in the passenger side fuse box. Above it is a wiring harness not connected to anything. Under the centre console is two wires together with nothing plugged in.

What are the chances if I get the cruise control unit and the switch I can literally plug them in and it will work?
Is the wiring all in place for it?

Sorry no photos yet. Will do tomorrow.
Look forward to responses!!!

I'm fairly certain Jaguar dud not adopt electronic cruise control (as in full elec no bellows no vac) until the mid 90s, possibly only in later 6cly XJS cars?

i'm sure others could add more insight. I have a cruise control button, the entire hardware assy was long gone when I bought it.

Would be nice though.

Plug in the unit and try it. It is highly likely all the looms are in place. I assume the under-bonnet stuff is all there?

p.s. Jaguar had electronic cruise control in the 1980s, my car has it and so do earlier HEs, at lesat.

It seems highly unlikely that the only issue with your cruise control are the missing bits.
From what you indicate you don't have the CC switch, or ECM.
If that's the case, it's not encouraging that buying them will solve your problem(s).
Too bad you are not local, we could plug in those parts and see what happens.
If it's worth $100, you can have mine from my 94 parts car.

Wow, you are far away! But yes totally that would be helpful. I'm considering getting the ECM and the attaching switch and see if it works. I have a feeling that if the wiring is there all thats missing is the ECM and switch.
I let you know!

The plug in the second photo is for the cruise module. It's not a difficult system to retro fit, I have adapted it to an earlier Daimler that never had cruise. You will need an extra micro switch on the shifter to give it an indication when the shifter is in D, and you'll need the cancel switch on the brake pedal.

The 1994 cars use a different system from the earlier cars. The later cars use a Hella system, the earlier ones are AE Econocruise.

I've attached the XJ6 wiring diagram, but the wire colours and the components are the same for an XJS.

Duke85

Since you listed your car as 19885 XJS Manual I'm assuming you have a 3.6 engine, yes?

Do you have these cruise control components in the engine bay?

Ok, now can I use an ECM from a 5.3 ltr auto xjs on a 3.6 ltr manual xjs? I was hoping you were close by but not the case!

Ah, I missed it was a 3.6. I've only seen those in an XJ40 and they have the Hella system, not sure what an XJS would have had. I think there is a switch on the clutch pedal too, as depressing the clutch should disengage cruise.

Ok great, where roughly should I look in the engine bay? I'm gonna take a look later.

Thank you

The vacuum pump/ dump valve is on the left wheelarch, and the bellows will be near the throttle assembly, mid point of the engine. The photo is a LHD car, but the vac pump is the lower circle, cruise bellows is the upper circle. This looks like a Hella vacuum pump to me. At least it's common on XJ40's and X300's.

Wow, super clean and tidy engine bay. As you can see mine is lets say, different to yours!

I don't think I have the parts you circled in my car
