The relay is just behind the LHS headl;ight nacelle, inside the engine bay, under a plastic cover with two other relays mounted in a vertical line. The fan relay is a red round one.
On my 1985 car the diode pack is a blue cube that looks a bit like a relay, and is on the LHS of the wing, just in from the hood shutting gutter, rearwards of the fuse holders. I think your car is the same, but I am not certain.
Note also that the frontmost fuse is the fan fuse.

Thanks but I'm not so sure as I don't have a red relay. I have 5 relays in a row and need to know what they are all are left to right.
This is where model year designations get confusing with cars that are sold to many different markets. What your picture shows looks like "1989" configuration to a person accustomed to USA-market cars.
Looking at my 1989 diagrams the diode pack would be in the #3 position from the front.....which is vacant on your car. Looks like someone removed the diode pack and installed a jumper wire, for reasons we can only speculate about at the moment
On my 1988 XJS (USA market car) the fan diode pack is the blue unit near the brake booster, lower left corner of the picture. I think this is exactly what Greg was describing.
Yes, although mine is registered 1988 it is the same layout as yours with the 5 rows of relay. Thanks for confirming it is the diode pack missing and I assume fan relay is the one at the end.
