Default Exhaust olives

As I continue putting things back together on my v12, the exhaust is up next. Is it necessary to put paste on the olives that connect the pipes or should they seal without? Thanks in advance for the help that is so freely given and gratefully received on here. Happy new year!

I used the paste. They sealed with the paste on em. You try no paste and we’ll know if that works too.

I did not use paste on my AJ16 exhaust. No issues.

Using aftermarket olives seemed to make a bigger difference. I had some that didn’t fit! The OEM looked and felt of better quality.

I will probably use a bit of paste but on first fit up things didn’t look too bad. I cleaned the boxes up with a wire brush in the grinder/drill and was amazed how well they came up. Someone told they are of a low grade stainless . Makes sense. Not too important at this stage that they are 100 % gas tight I suppose as long as something like. That paste makes a mess and looks bad I think.

The crushable olives between the manifold and the downpipes benefit from a smear. The other solid ones cannot do any harm, but are not actually needed. A smear on the slipjoint into the back boxes in the exhaust tunnel is worth doing.

Well that’s one side done this morning, bit easier than I thought.

Not a big fan of exhaust paste myself, especially if you ever have to take it apart!

Ask me how I know! (or rather don't)

I didn't use paste on mine, no issues after 2 months.

Thanks,
