Thumbs down A few Questions About a Used Marelli Ignition Engine I Bought

My 90 XJS Convertible with 107,000 miles developed a rod knock.

I will eventually tear down the engine and rebuild, but short term, I decided to buy a used engine instead. The engine in the car is SN 8S73301SA.

I bought the new to me used engine from SW Engines in Eugene Oregon. It arrived yesterday. I noticed a few things that look different than my engine, although it is a Marelli ignition engine.

Serial Number for this engine is 8S82332SA. DY247 is stamped to the left of the serial number. There is an additional web above left of the transmission mounting flange. The exterior of the block for 8S73301SA is smooth surface rough cast. Engine 8S82332SA has hashmarks cast on the exterior of the block. The JAGUAR embossed on the left side of this engine is different whereas the JAGUAR embossed on 8S73301SA is in a hexagon.

Other than these differences, the engine seems to be equipped the same.

What can you tell me about this engine?

I forgot to mention that this engine, like the original has the new style rear crank seal.

All Marellis seem to have the lip seal at rear. Mine (mid 89) has it too... Not available new anymore. But you can get the correct part from Bentley...

Daim;

You can buy new rear seals from XKs unlimited if you need one.

I bought a new one from SNG - which came in a Bentley bag... That is why I know. Jaguar themselves claim NLA.

The early marelli motors (up to #66782) had rope seal Daim. Mid '89 was about right.
