It's not that the wheels are on that tight it's the awkwardness of removing them the best thing to do it so wirewheel the hub and paint it witha rust proof paint or an acid wash to keep is from rusting and locking onto the wheel

Hi Calvin

The dust covers were not rusty at all but in any event I washed them (in the kitchen sink) where else and dried them off with a 'Tea Cloth' and then the GF gave them a blast with her hair dryer.

I put Copper grease on one and the GF Sprinkled some of her 'Yardleys Sandalwood' Talc on the face of the other! (actually got her doing something useful for a change!)

In these Scientific Tests, both products did the job but as the GF pointed out, if you have to change Tyres/Tires at the side of the road, if you use powder you won't get all covered in grease!

Or to be more accurate 'I' won't get covered in grease!

See, who says that us blokes can't be domestic?
Why do the wimmin folk (she) get all upset when we (I) put car bits (MGC exhaust manifolds) in the dishwasher on a hot wash?
They only call it a 'dish' washer because 'dish and car bits and that thing off the lawnmower' washer made the label too long.

And then they start to wonder why we don't want to get married!

The kitchen sink was primarily designed for washing car parts with washing up things like dishes, the only alternative use.

How anyone can be expected to wash such parts with a garden hose is beyond me!

What they cannot get their heads around is that it's cheaper to buy new plates than almost any spare part you could find on an XJS.

The same goes for the wash basin in the bathroom, for the overnight soaking of parts in Paraffin or De greaser.

How are you ever supposed to do that, without hot water to rinse the parts in afterwards?

I don't see the need to wash every day and the fact 'designer stubble' seems to be in vogue, is a proof positive clear indication of this!
