giddy up old girl
I was at a 2 lane stoplight this evening when some fool in a Toyota sr8 pulled up beside me. The light turned green and I drove ahead. Then the two lanes merged and he suddenly decided he needed to pass me. I had three choices. One, maintain my speed and swipe the guardrail. Two, slam my brakes because at this point his grill is equal to my steering wheel, or three, liberal use of the stupid pedal.
I chose option three.
The car leapt forward and roared to life. When it hit second gear somewhere around the 50+ mph mark the rear wheels broke free from the pavement with a satisfying squeal, leaving the sr8 well behind.
I'm still grinning.

Funny thing is the next day I was following a 2000 something chevy pickup that was obviously well beaten on. When a passing lane opened up I started to accelerate and he decided to gun it to prevent me from getting past.
It was a short lane and I decided to back off and let him waste his gas. Less than a mile later he passed someone using the breakdown lane at 60+ mph.
Sometimes we have to be prudent and choose when to use the power, and when not to. I certainly had more to lose than he did!

Well I think it is very irresponsible of you to do that, what sort of message are you sending to these young blokes with their Blowfly engines, rubber band tyres and 8" exhaust systems they need to vent their massive engine capacities!
This really destroys our reputation of refinement and gentleman's of our sophisticated vehicles and any other big word that I cant think of at the moment.
Mind you squealing tyres as it hits second at speed is impressive, I cant get a bloody squeak out of mine in first, Damn it!

Unfortunately, if you had been up here at altitude, the outcome may have been different.. ;-)
I'm at 7,200 ASL, and my car isn't much of a tire breaker looser, more of a speedo keeps climbing without effort or pause, but a 0-60 queen, she is not! ;-)
Now the XJR, with some, ahem, mods, lays rubber in two gears quite easily and has flattened a lot of folks, until I have a turn.. hmmmmm, oh Lord, shut it down!!!!! - HA!..
Great story..
Cheers,
Jeff
