Default Head Light Black and Green Extra Wires

My four head lights had a high beam or low beam light burned out in each of the lights. I was reading an article that said to connect the spare wires the a grounding point on the fraim inside the bonnet with the other grounding points after cleaning the attachment points. Now just the normal lights come on and one of the turn signals flash real fast and one signal flashes very dim. Should the black be grounded to the fraim and where should the white wire go?

Assuming a USA-spec car the headlight wires should be blue/white (lo beams), blue/red (hi beams), and black (ground). That's it.

No green. No white. Unless, perhaps, you're taking about the small leads that come off the bulbs themselves.

Send a link to the article you mentioned.

Cheers

Doug,
you are correct there is a Blue/White, Blue/Red and Black to the one low/high beam outside lamp and a Blue/White and Black to the inside high beam lamps. There is also (2) Red (2) Black going down through a hole (fog lights?) along with a Green/White and a Black that were not connected to anything in the large lamp holder with the black rubber splice at the end of the wire for a single round connector pin.
The article I was reading did not talk about the extra wires.

The ones going down through the hole are usually for the lights on the wing/fender.

Fog lights are red/yellow

Marker/park lights are red

RH turn signals are green/white
LH turn signals are green/red

I'm not quite sure what you have goin' on but different market cars had different lighting circuits...and sometimes wires were installed left unused.

For headlights you should just need blue/white, blue/red, and black.

Cheers

Doug, Greg, XJtom,

I am still looking into the headlight issue. I found that the front fog lights turn on in position #1 of the lighting switch fed from cir. #1 red/yellow, red yellow in the main fuse box, I removed the instrument lighting from position #1 of the lighting switch fed from cir. #7 red/slate red/slate in the main fuse box he rotary dial and added it to the time delay off and it turns on when the courtesy lights come on and go off, you can still control the instrument lighting from the lighting switch position #1. I tested all of the fuses under the hood in the black and white fuse boxes. The all had 12 volts, I pulled all of the fuses out and it did not turn any of the lighting off. I pulled the tin can headlight relay with the capacitor off the mount and tested terminal 56a to see if there was power on the blue/white wire for the high beam lamps that would not turn on earlier, there was no power at the terminal. The drawing show that the power comes from the black fuse panel. Should I replace the headlight relay and capacitor? i don't have any capacitors, rectifiers or diodes. How Many and what size capacitors, rectifiers or diodes should I purchase or future issues? How do you know what size and when I need to use capacitors, rectifiers or diodes? I have a few different drawings to fix the headlight issue. One fix is to install (3) SPST relays rated at 30A and add diodes. Can I use (1) 3P43T relay and a 9 pin 3 cir. custom diode block (Hella 74989) i have? Replace the existing Hella 4RD001836-0512V and capacitor (what size). Should the inhibit relay be removed and put the fog lights on it's on switch position? The lighting switch has 5 position, how to you activate or change the positions to feed different lamps?

I added additional information to my original post regarding wiring of the new turn signal. I would like your input as to what you guys think the issue could be.

Thanks for your assistance.

Patrick,
the headlight/lighting system must have worked correctly at some point in time, i may have missed it but your reasoning for changing lighting supply positions on the switch?...........as for replacing the original hella relay, go to my website home page, i have a sample of the relay in question, i have put together a modern upgrade of the relay which has build in diode system, i sell lots of these in Australia, not worth sending one from here but i can provide you the info (message me) of what to purchase, web>>> http://www.jaguar-wiring-schematics.info/index.htm
the old hella relay is part mechanical and when they break down it's a real pain....as for the fog lights, that's your choice but personally i do like to have a separate control for accessory lights such as fog..... the upgraded headlight relay system i devised is very compact and easy to fit...
this is just a quick response, if you prefer you can contact me via email from my web site...........
as for the power still there even with the fuses out is a real mystery to say the least, sure sounds like some wiring incorrectly fitted, often when i was in a workshop we'd would just stop, & start from the beginning and wire it to standard system.
Updated Headlight schematic>>>>>>>>>>>>>
