Hi Guys

Tomorrow I've got an MOT on my Grey XJS and everything is working except one of the Hella Fog Lights under the Front Bumper.

Not that I ever go out in the Fog but I think you know how it is.

The Problem being, that I cannot find anywhere near me that sells those Bulbs.

Does anyone know if they have to work or would it pass an MOT if I put the Spot Light Covers on.

Which I'm Paranoid about, in case they fall off or I lose one.

I don't know what the latest rules are but if I were you I would put the light covers on and secure them with black insulating tape to stop them falling off (as a responsible owner would) and smile nicely at the tester.


On a separate note I was so sorry to hear of your problem with the V12 and hope you find a simple solution. I must admit I cannot understand how turning an engine backwards would cause a problem as I have been doing this on MGs for years to adjust points / tappets etc. but then again I have never worked on a V12 (my own XJS is a 3.6 straight 6).

It's got to do with the how the timing chain tensioner operates. Rotating the engine backwards puts the tensioner under strain in the wrong direction and can cause it to fracture.

I was pulling down my spare 6.0L and inadvertently turned the engine backwards slightly, when I got to the tensioner is was broken.

On my 5.3L in the car I turned it backwards 180° 10 or so years ago and this engine is still in the car and going strong.

Whenever I get a problem with my XJS

I just fall into a Big Black Hole of depression, because I am so emotionally invested in the Car.

Having your XJS go wrong like mine is a pretty big deal and wouldn't it just be ever so nice to wheel it in to an expert and just let them get on with

it and then send me the bill.

But where's the Fun and Satisfaction in that!

I'm not a 'Normal' Person, I don't drive a 'Normal' Car and neither do I stay depressed for long.

As Words like 'give up' or 'can't do' are the Two that I don't recognize.

And if I have to take the Engine out to Fix the Car, I'll find a way to do it.

Though it might take a little bit longer than someone who's got all the Tools and has done it before.

Although I'm of course hoping that it won't come to that.

Standard H2 55w bulb, used in all sorts of applications.

We can get them anywhere really, but you are in the UK, and I am learning that things be different up there.

Covers ON, smiles all round, JD in the hip flask, just in case.

 

Yes H2 bulbs are a little difficult to buy in UK, never found one on sale in a shop, loads of H1, H3,H4, H7 but no H2.

I have bought H2 bulbs online and have also had my XJS pass MOT test when fog lamps weren't working.

I put the Covers on the Fog Lights and they never got a mention.

And She passed with Flying Colours which was good and really felt Amazing!

 

Nice to hear. Here in Germany the TÜV would want to see the lenses if they are still wired up. So mine are both cracked but the covers are good. I'll just cut the wire behind the light (they are rusty as hell as well) and drive with them like that.

The foglights look weird anyway probably the only part of the car I don't really like... They could have been integrated into the lower sections of the wings or in the chin spoiler (like Volvo in the 740).
