Unhappy Help to rebuilod XJS calipers

HI. I am trying to rebuild the XJS calipers myself and got all the way to inserting the square rubber piece in the groove of the piston and then adding the new stainless steel piston into the cavity. Unfortunately while I have the dust seal in place and fully down on the caliper I can't seem to get the retaining ring onto the dust seal without it coming off the caliper. What can I do ? Is there an easy way to put these retaining rings onto the dust seal?

I appreciate any help.

There is a problem with modern aftermarket dust covers. They are too thick for the calliper indentation. I found an NOS genuine Girling kit, and the dust covers went on fine, whereas the aftermarket kit covers would not. I have no ideas about fixing them; but maybe others have?

I didn't have a problem when I did mine, they went on fine.

Did you use brake grease to assemble?
