Default Horn issues

After following the advice on here I believe the problem with my horn is in the steering column. Would a replacement top half of column contain the connectors for the horn rod inside? If that makes sense.

It would. As a test first, if you pull out the long brass rod with the big plastic nut that goes down the column centre, just a bit, and angle it a bit so the brass rod itself contacts the column steel, ignition on, the horn should sound. If it does not, you have a column problem - probably! Basically, earthing the rod should sound the horns, just running an earth from the brass centre of the plastic nut should, ignition on, sound the horns.

Someone on here has fixed this sort of problem by taking the column to bits, I seem to remember, so worth doing a search. Do you have the facelift type column, Brinnny? (where the wheel can be tilted up and down, or the pre-facelift where it goes in and out)?

Hi Greg, I've thd pre facilft type. I've seen Warren's fix .looks a bit complicated for me lol that's why I thought about just swapping the column. Horn does work very occasionally when you pull column out but most not.

Brinny
A complete working upper column from a scrap car would be far easier to fit than a new column
There are new ones on ebay quite fairly priced, considering. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-SP...gAAOSwq2Nd8PrN

Check your VIN is Ok for them though. They do require quite a few bits from your old column being removed and fitted to them though, there are quite a few bits that have to be removed from the top section of your old column to put on the new one, if you do go that route.

Cheers Greg that's what I was thinking. At less than £50 for brand new I thought that would end my pain in the easiest way and know that all innards are 100%. Well that's the theory!!
