Default how to fix door mechanism

my 95 xjs had a problem with the lock on the passenger side. after fooling around the outside handle became disconnected and everything else became free and works properly. Now how do i reconnect the outside door handle? I have removed the panel and felt around inside the door. I think I have found the place where it connects, but nothing to connect it to.
any and all help will be appreciated.

The plastic piece could have broken off. The linkage goes through a plastic piece that also has the metal tab that locks onto the linkage, they eventually wear and break off.

Looks like this

There should be a piece that connect to the door handle that you can clearly see, sometimes the pot metal can shear off and then you have to replace the handle, so if you don't see an obvious place for the linkage to go to that is perhaps just missing the part I showed, try to figure out if perhaps it broke off altogether. That is what happened to mine

Here is a drawing of the door latch and associated parts. Most of the time if one of the rods falls off it can be found in the bottom of the door. Did have one fall out of the weep hole once.how to fix door mechanism-door-latch.jpg

Once you get it open, feel free to take some pics if you can't figure out what is missing and perhaps we can help you figure it out.

Even the diagrams can be difficult, its not easy to read about. You either need someone pointing things out with a visual aid or to just examine the mechanisms and figure out how they operate

You are most welcome I'm on travel this week so I was not able to take photos of the one I have in my garage hope the drawing helps. Sen photos if you need too and look for broken bits where the rods attach.
Send some cold and snow out here to us in the Sierra Nevada mountains its been in the mid to high 60's for over a week. Total snow at my place (6000ft) this season 4" should be over 6' by now.

I got It, the problem was that I was working in antiquate lighting. when the sun came out and things warmed up yesterday I moved the car outside and saw that I was working in the wrong area. thanks to the diagram the was sent to me by tokyodon I was able to see were I was going and managed to fix the problem. Now if I could get the panel back on like it was I will be one happy JAGUAR OWNER.

nice! I always feel unhelpful saying "just look at it" but it really does help to just look at the whole thing and figure for yourself how it all operates and piece together what is wrong.

Hard to do when you can't see!

All I can suggest is to spray it (the lock mechanism) with WD-40. This was suggested to me and is makes sense. I'm going to try it.

Cool key less entry

My keyless entry isn't working. I replaced the battery and followed the reset steps I got from a forum. All the bells and whistles sounded. But the key less entry is still not working. Got a new battery in the device but still won't work.
