How to remove drivers side downpipe(LHD)?
I'll take a stab on the dark.
You got Cats, bugga, we dont, so simple for us. Still a Major PITA however.
Our RH is the Mongrel, that rack tower is just in the way, even with no Cats,
Our starter motor, oh boy, take the engine out, its easier.
Remove the rack.
There are other suggestions, but dropping the rack is the easiest by far.

It just needs an inch or 2.
if i undo the steering column and the (2??) bolts holding the rack, will I be able to move it down a bit? I would really prefer not having to touch the fluid lines.

Maybe.
There will be slop in the RH bush, has to be, its a Jag, and that may get you what you want.

Give it a go.

On my ‘88 V12, did not loosen or remove rack and pinion; you do have to remove the oil filter I recall. Also play with turning the steering to get it to clear. Have dropped it at least 3 times, never had to loosen anything,
So everything came apart very easily in the end.
just had to disconnect steering column and remove the heat shields. Easy peasy.
getting the after market catless downpipes on is an entirely different story. Lots of fiddling, still poor fitment.
i will try again when my head is clear. Was not a fun afternoon.
