Hub bearing adjustment Workshop manual ERROR!
In the above section of the workshop manual (officially called the Jaguar XJ-S Repair Operation Manual) page 64-2 the manual states that: "if the endfloat exceeds 0.005 inch it must be rectified by ... changing the spacer for a thicker one".
If fact, to DECREASE endfloat in the hub bearings a THINNER spacer must be used.
To repeat,
thinner spacer = less endfloat,
thicker spacer = more endfloat.
