Hydraulic hoses for 1088XJS
Hello Everyone,
I just arrived back at the house with my latest project. A 1988 XJS convertible 5.3L V12. I bought the car sight unseen. I'll wait for a few minutes so you can laugh and shake your head...............
Ok, all that being said, it is a MAJOR project. It was cheap though.
It was stored in a barn, and mice got into the engine and ate through all the wires and hoses.
The first things I need to fix are the fuel and hydraulic leaks. The largest leak is a shredded hydraulic hose part number "JLM1462" hydraulic hose kit. Its the one that has the banjo fitting on one side.
I have only found one website that has the part. Hose Kit
I was wondering if anyone has had luck making these hoses. I read some posts where you can order VW hose, but I am not sure how well they will work attaching them to the old fittings.
I would love anyone's advice. Im going to asking for a lot of insight and help over the next months/year.
Thanks!!
Edit: mistyped the year, it is a 1988 and not 98

That looks like a brake hose, I wouldn't try making one. SNG Barratt is a good supplier ( and gives a forum discount), so I use them as my "go to" supplier. I have always had excellent service from there and the website is excellent in showing the alternatives in terms of genuine, OEM and aftermarket parts, so you know exactly what you are getting. I'll be diplomatic and say that my experiences with the vendor you linked to had been less than stellar.
I see dealers selling the hose for less than the price you found too.

As jagboi said, do a search for JLM1462. You have a 1988? and not one of the rarer William the Conquerer models, I take it!
Also, as this is part of the ABS system which is fantastically problematic and expensive to repair, I would think carefully about converting the car back to the pre ABS system. Finally, I would very carefully inspect the car and assess what the entire parts cost is going to be, before spending money on one isolated part. You will have all suspension rubbers, shocks, fuel lines, injector lines, coolant hoses, brake flexibles and calipers, discs, etc etc and loads of other things to fix before you even turn a wheel.
We all wish you luck, and will be 100% ready to help, but planning is the key with such a car.

I agree with making a plan of what all I am going to fix, but I need to stop the 2 big leaks ASAP. That is why I want to work on just he brake line (which sprays hydraulic fluid everywhere as soon as I turn on the key) and the leaking fuel system. (I don't know where it is leaking yet, but I smell fuel when I turn on the key)
