Jim
Are you sure it is not the delay relay, they should go out after about 20 seconds. BUT the central roof light pivots through three positions, and if in the ON position, will never go out.
If the rear and lower dash lights do not go out ever, then 1) they may be switched on at their switches; 2) the door activated switches may not be close enough to the chrome striker pad to activate when the door closes, or be faulty; or 3) the delay relay may have croaked.
It could be something else of course, but these are where to start.

Is it a convertible or coupe? The lights work differently on each.

Check the dash switch marked 1 and 2. Is this a pre facelift '91 ?

Hi
it's a coupe left the car under its cover for two weeks the battery was flat didn't notice the clear lights were still on . Charged battery started first time but the clear lights were on all the while . The red door lights worked fine . I have pulled the fuse for the time being till I can sort it .

If the puddle lights in the door go out, then the switch is fine. I think the delay relay might be the likeliest candidate. It is number 11 in the attached diagram, accessed by removing the passenger side knee trim. This is a pre facelift V12 coupe diagram.
