Default Keys for a 93 XJS

My 93 XJS Convertible came with only 1 key
I didn't realize finding replacement keys would be so difficult.
I found a set of blanks, but I have no access to the codes necessary to have them cut.
Also I have no idea who could cut the keys if I choose to purchase them.
Jaguar USA, the local Jaguar dealers were all dead-ends.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Dan

Dan,

Just go back to your Jaguar Dealer with proof of ownership of your car and its VIN. They key codes are maintained in the systems run by Jaguar Heritage. Your dealer should absolutely know this.

Good luck

Paul

thanks
Two of the local dealerships just said their information doesn't go back that far, and left me hanging.
I am waiting on a return call from the 3rd dealer.
I have found a service that will cut keys from a photo, I sent pics and waiting response.
At least the answer is somewhere out there.

Jaguar Herirage hold all the key codes for every XJS built. Just tell your dealer to ring them.

Good luck

It's called a Tibbe key, and was used on European Ford's for many years. There are 3 possible positions for each cut, (uncut, half depth and full depth) and there are 8 positions. If you look on ebay.co.uk there are usually a number of sellers who can cut a key by the code. The code is derived from looking at the key you have and there is a number assigned to the depth of cut.

Here is how to read the key: https://triple-c.com/How_To_Read_Jag..._Key_Codes.cfm

This is very helpful.
My assessment of the code matches the cutters' so I am sure I got this right.
Thanks again!

When I needed a key for my 94 xjs I found a service in Australia that was able to cut it from one good photo.
The did a great job quickly and at a reasonable cost.
