Default Knocking front shock absorber bush?

Hi everyone,

I have an annoying knock over uneven surfaces / potholes which I think is coming from the top of the OS shock absorber.

I think it is the top bush but most of the usual suppliers offer a range of original, aftermarket (some rubber, some foam) and uprated bushes. Does anyone have experience of what works best? Price differentials are not huge so just looking for what will last longest.

Last point; if I find I need to replace the shock, am I ok to drive the car in and out of my garage without the shocker fitted? I'm guessing it doesn't carry any weight and easier to work on outside my garage.

Thanks for reading,
LeeP

Your new shocks should come with new bushes. The shock is not load bearing on the front wheels. Boges are the OEM shocks, cheap and good from the specialists like Manners.

++

The top bushes seperately are open to much discussion.

Down here I went with rubber for the XJS and Series cars, last a long time and work on our "fantastic" roads.

The X300's run the OE Foamy stuff, and they seem OK as well.

When I needed bushes, pre computer days, I simply looked around the generic Parts Store and found what measured fine for me. Early Holden top shocker bushes from memory. Nothing specific, just suitable OD and hole diameter, and they all seemed about the same thickness.

Hi Leep123

I had the same problem but its easy enough to make your own and you can see how I did it on Page: 62 of my 'Cherry Blossom' restoration thread

And here is a link to that page: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...122634/page62/

Thanks OB (and the other guys).

I should have guessed there would have been an answer somewhere in the OB chronicles. One day I must sit down with a good bottle of red and read it from cover to cover!

Cheers,
