Default Leaper or Growler?

Leaper or Growler...
Tire valve stem caps...

on the Growler the ring around it has the word Jaguar
above the growler head ear to ear.

with the leaper well you can see it clearly

Which do you like?

Pertaining to the XJS, the correct answer is always Growler

Please reference:

Everything discussed in this ridiculously thorough thread applies universally to anything one could possibly add to the XJS that could have either a Leaper or Growler, including but not limited to, bonnet ornamentation, boot ornamentation, valve stem caps, center caps, shift knobs (for later models), decals or logos of any sort anywhere on the car.

Ok, but really, Growler is always the answer

Jonathan,

I bought caps for my 2008 XJ. After one year, the metals fused together and could not be removed. I tried WD-40, heat and cutting them off. None of this worked. I had to replace the valve stems - the ones that detect low pressure, and had the tires broken down, valves replaced and tires rebalanced. This is a very costly and stupid situation.

I have since learned that the valve stems can be made of 3 different materials. If yours is rubber, then you should be fine. If not, beware.

The green Leapers are what came with my car when I bought it...
but like only 3 , one was missing
I bought the others thinking I might like them... but I like the old green ones better... I just know I will not ever find another one...

and I loose caps at the tire stores... yeah they never put them back...
so much for free flat repair...

I have one fog light cover also... some times things turn up in wired places in the car though... who knows what I might find where and when...

on the wife's minivan I found another remote for locking and the alarm in the tire jack cubby space...

Hi Jonathan,

I would also advise against those cheap Chinese growler caps on Ebay, they sure look nice......I bought 3 sets for my cars and they stuck to two wheels on the E , 3 wheels on the XJS and all four on the X. Luckily they all came of after being soaked in penetrating lubricant overnight. Buy the real Jaguar caps, they cost 20 bucks a set but they don't rust !!

+1 on Spike's comments with the cheap caps rusting. When I bought my LR3, it had knock-off ones on there that took me several hours to get off with lubricant and pliers. Total pain. Replaced with the OEM Land Rover ones and no issues since.

I would surmise it's the same case with the Jaguar factory caps.

These are the real ones. I have had these on the 3 cars with no problem.

I have had cheap ones on my car before, for the purpose of using chrome instead of black plastic, a teeny bit of anti-seize of brake grease and you should never have any problems with them.
