Default New Fuel Tank install

Today I started the removal of my "leaking from somewhere" fuel tank.

I picked it up at SNGbarret. Although the hose fitting are different on the tank, ill be making a phone call on Monday, to hopefully get the correct new hoses.

Removal wasn't that bad at all. the foam pads were the issue. when I got them out, it just slid right out.

Found out it was the bottom of the tank that was slowly rusting through.

I have a fair amount of rust on the top right of the inside. the plan is to clean it all up an por15 the whole area. and the bottom of the new tank.

Fellow member SARC came up with an idea of a few rubber feet on the bottom of the tank, instead of the black pad, to promote airflow.

as you can see in the pics, its with friends, a gourgus 35K miles 1990 xj40 "possibly for sale" and the 75 v12 coup we are slowy building back to life.

I like your idea of rubber feet for air flow. I suggest at least three rows deep with about eight pads in each row on the long axis. The tank is heavy when full of gas.

Rubber disc's the same thickness of the rubber pad should do the trick.

Must just be from the rust, removing the tank is made easier because of the foam in my experience, the foam lets it slide.

Mine started rust spots and fuel leaks at the spot welds for the baffles. I cleaned the spots, put epoxy on them, sealed the underside, and then painted. I can see how strips could help, but it lasted at least 30 years to begin with, so I think modern coatings should more than cover it for me. I totally understand wanting to protect your purchase though lol.

Hopefully in the future someone will produce a plastic tank, maybe after the XJS becomes more of a classic with aftermarket/restoration parts.
