Default Newbie in a 93 XJS

Hello everyone. I happily drive a 1993 XJS 5 Speed manual convertible in King Fisher Blue. I am the original owner. I have regularly enjoyed the ride over the past 23 years so she has 189K miles. She's been real good to me. So I have taken care of her. I just replaced the radio and I need some help with replacing some wires in the climate control piece covering the radio opening. I also have some other issues I would love to get help for. Thank you in advance.

Welcome Paul.
Ask specific questions and there is enough knowledge on this forum to sort most problems out.
Good luck.

Default help with replacing wires in climate control face

Thanks for the welcome Steve. After replacing the radio which works well now, I am left with two wires emerging from below the radio which I believe go to the climate control face plate. The have metal ends. I don't see where they should be attached to the plastic face plate. I forgot where they came out of it when opening up the unit. Got excited that I was getting blue tooth and updates tunes.

By the way, Steve are you a sailor or motor boater?

Are they wires or fiber optic cables?

The climate control dials are illuminated using fiber optics.

The wires could be the connecting lines to the rear (trunk) CD player. I have a 93 XJS and that is the answer I got when my new radio was installed.

Default unknown wires in climate control face plate

Thanks everyone for the responses. It isn't the CD player jack. That's behind the radio and unused now. These are in the front, come up through the center console from just below the radio. They do look like those wire ends Mac sent. I didn't think the metal ends were so long; I haven't looked at them in a week. In any case when I removed the faceplate they weren't attached so I don't know where to re-attach them. And yeah, the climate control faceplate has no illumination at night now.

Thanks Mac, ! Can you tell me where they are attached on the back of the face plate. I have a CD of the manuals for repair of the car but can't find anything on this wiring.

Thanks again for the help! Have a great weekend.

Hi Paul,

It's been ages since I had my radio out so I don't remember exactly where the fiber optic leads attach. IIRC, it isn't a electrical looking connection, but just a spot in the plastic casing where you plug the leads in to provide illumination.

Hopefully someone who has had the faceplate out more recently can enlighten you on the exact location if you can't find it.
