Default O2 sensor warning light, instrument cluster rebuild

I'm hard wiring the instrument panel in my 1987 XJ-S V12. To keep the job as manageable as possible, I'm eliminating anything that I I don't need or doesn't work. On the list so far are the parking brake warning light (my parking brake has never worked), the "towing packing" light, the bulb failure warning light (I've removed all of them).

I'm wondering about the O2 sensor warning light. I've had mine go bad (well, at least one of them) and never saw this light come on, so I'm thinking of ditching it since the circuit that controls it doesn't appear to work...but I may give a try at repairing the circuit if it's worth doing. Anyone know how it works?

Secondly, it seems like a good time to replace the grain-of-wheat bulbs with LEDs. Has anyone run into LEDs designed to fit in the existing bulb sockets?

Thanks,

John

The O2 sensor warning light is triggered by an interval counter....which is calibrated to turn the warning light on every 30k miles. The warning light isn't an indicator of actual sensor performance or operation.

Your '87 might not have the interval counter and associated wiring. I don't know the exact cut-off but when Jaguar transitioned to 3-wire O2 sensors....1987-ish ..... the sensor warning light circuit was eliminated

Cheers

Well, that makes that easy! One less LED to wire.

Thanks,

John
