Or gasket and a smear of RTV on both side of the gasket.

Red looks cool...
Thanks, Duke... Just RTV. When I was messing around and placing the cover back over the shafts temporarily, and stuff, ya can kinda feel that there really is this precise union between the top of the tappet block and the sealing face of the cover. They sit together so we'll. I got the feeling that RTV was enough. It really is quite amazing how precise the two pieces come together.

Oh wow. I like the black allens... It's not to late. The only I could find locally are silver. And not enough. I think I only found ten and the rest, are hex. I placed the hex in areas that I think will not be as visible when the intake is back on... Which will be in a couple of hours.

I intend to go out today and figure out cutting the one LOOONG intake gasket into 12 individual. Maybe I'll just use the shape of the old gaskets as a guide. Can't afford a mistake!

And,,, red definitely ARE the business,,, since mine are red now, too... Lol...

This may sound nutts,,, but I want my engine out.
Someday...

Why bother cutting the intake gaskets?

Now ya say that!!! Haha

I cut them. It went ok. Did have one nervous moment. What I understood in reading (don't know where and about what exactly) is that the one continuous gasket traps things underneath it, gets in the way for certain things, and then starts to fall apart over time making a mess - stuff like that. The material between the sealing layers on either side of the gasket reminded me of gypsum. I got it from Welsh.

So, I finished. It actually HURT to put all the things, wires, and such BACK on to of the engine. It's so so so pretty without. I guess that that means I have some TLC and detailing to do in my future. Clearing this, tucking that, rewiring and what not. I KNOW that for the most part mine, is a messy situation in there. I'll get on it.

I looked and, no more leaks. At least not so far.

That JUMBLED mess of wires on the fire wall back RH side is a disaster. Needs attention.

Had one scare. I'd finally gotten to the point of starting it, did, and she was running HORRIBLY... I went around looking at this and that, thought the worst, started touching things - and I'll give a million bucks to whomever guesses what I forgot to do!!!?

Also, for a while after starting, I was getting a good audible chirp from under the RH cam cover. Had to be a lobe and tappet/valve. Sounded like it wasn't getting oil to the face of the tappet between the lobe and tappet... The engine warmed, it got worse and better. I started turning the throttle by hand and it slowly seemed to lessen then disappeared. If it comes back I'll be posting. When I had everything apart, using a scotch bright pad, I removed varnish and staining from the lobes in the areas I had access to. Maybe that wasn't such a good idea???

Refilled with antifreeze and gave her a goooood burp... Running cool. New fan seems more efficient. Windy - er....

Anyways, there's more, but I'm exhausted and if I don't get over to Brooklyn to see my girlfriend,,, she's going to WHIP my ***.

Thank you all so so so much. I'm serious. Can't say enough!

Almost. Lots and lots of tidying up to do... There really IS a lot to figure out what ta do with under here. Thinking about what a new harness or harnesses might look like.

Then, vacuum lines and such. It can be tighter... I know it can.

Like Grant and others have said... The sender for the dummy light. (Clearing throat) pretend not to see the URO label on the offending part. Was leaking at the seam,,,, evvvvver so slightly - thin streaming style,,,, where circled in red. After some of the attacks at curing the drips,,, this one was still dripping. We'll see if this changes things, and how much. There could be more.

I'll need something like a 27mm socket to completely tighten it down. Will have to wait til I get back to NYC. Needed a crows foot 7/16ths to get the old one off without taking other things apart. Crows foot helped!

Notice the string to save the new part from falling into the abyss... It's taken 2 years and some pain,,, yup - slowww learner.
