Default One fewer XJS on the road.

Got our XJS back from being repaired, serviced and painted last night and this morning I decided to come out of a roundabout too fast in the wet and spun it into a crash barrier.
Just waiting to hear back from the insurer as to whether they'll write it off or not. I've never felt so gutted! I've really enjoyed reading this forum and have learned loads - hopefully they can repair it and I'll continue to do so!
Fingers crossed...

Bugga,

It is fixable in the big scheme of things. Does not look like any suspension or structural damage.

Disappointing for sure.

I'm sorry to learn of your misfortune.

You may be looking at a small amount of structural damage on the front corner, but, it would be minor, if, in fact, it even extends beyond the headlamp mounts. Everything else looks to be little more than body panel, and bumper blade replacement.

Please don't allow the insurance company write this car off, even if that means refusing the their check, and repairing it out of pocket. Straight, used fender panels can be purchased for a couple hundred bucks here in the states, and I imagine they would be even less expensive there.

So sorry about that...and so soon after her repaint :-(

+1 on Jagzillas comment:

Don't let them write it of. This car can be fixed.

Bummer!
Check the condition of the bulkhead where the bonnet catches are mounted; looking at the picture at least one of the hooks/catches has failed but as it doesn't appear to be a head on shunt you may get away without damage to the bulkhead/firewall.
When I hit a deer up the **** a few years ago the Jag garage owner told me that if a shunt results in the catches being pushed into the bulkhead then the insurers will write it off as it is not economical to repair that area.
Hopefully you have Agreed Value insurance!
The rest of it looks fairly superficial; a couple of lights, a lump hammer and a bit of T- Cut and she'll be fine.
You must have been caning it for the back end to step out like that; what sort of tyres have you got on?

Life hands you lemons...ah you know the rest...Sorry... glad you're Ok enough to post about it. It appears to need about 3000 USD in retail repairs. That's kinda' close to 50% of the value so it's a toss up at this point. Its likely the insurance co will allow you to buy it back from them. You can sell it on to someone who does body work like me or to someone who needs the parts. If the suspension and frame are straight its a long weekend in the garage to restore a nice car. For example a few years ago I had a 300ZX that was crushed by a fallen tree. It was bad...I repurchased the car from the insurance co for 400$ and sold it on for 3500$ to someone who needed the parts.

Wow...got it on the right front and back...crappy luck.

Stiff upper lip though, it's fixable, and if the bean counters don't agree there is plenty of parts that you can take off it at sell to help finance the next one (which shouldn't cost that much).

If you don't mind a question though (feel free to tell me to take a leap if your not in the mood), I see that on your rear bumper there are two stoplight or taillights embedded in the bumper. Are these required in your location? I guess I've not looked hard enough at any previous pictures to have noticed them.

Sorry again...a drag for sure.

Oh No!!
I'm Really sorry to read about this!

I hope your estimate of the damage is on the high side, and you find a pleasant surprise when you really start looking closely.

J_C_R. The lights recessed into the bumper are the rear fog lights.

J_C_R those are rear fog lights. Required in the UK and I think at least several countries in the EU. Euro Porsche 928s and some Mercedes feature them as well. UK, Germany, not sure where else.

Thanks for the messages, I'll update everyone on the outcome.
@Steve M - Wasn't really going that fast - 30 mph perhaps? just accelerated too hard in the wet off a roundabout with a strange camber - the tyres are Pirelli P6000.
The car is insured for £5k so we'll see what happens!

Cat-C write off, just waiting for the buy back figure. They've quoted £4060 to repair but I haven't seen the report as to what it needs yet.
Anyone have any experience with insurance that can advise what I should do?! I really would like to keep this car and get it together again.

On this side of the pond...if an insurance company totals out your car and you buy it back they may not reinsure it after the rebuild. I have heard of states reissuing the title as a salvage car. Kinda puts a damper on the value should you want sell in the future.

Most states issue salvage titles for cars that have been totaled and subsequently repaired and registered. Salvage titles are generally the Kiss of Death on future sales.

My insurers were going to write mine off (damage cost £3500 in the end to fix) but the garage intervened on my behalf and persuaded them it was worth more so they paid up in the end.
