Not sure if this has been addressed before, did a search and found numerous posts for ''radio code". Looked through a few, but didn't find this.

Car has a FF44 code, figured I'd disconnect the battery and clear it and see if it shows back up since I've just purchased the car. Reconnect the battery and radio no longer worked. Says "code". So I randomly push some buttons and it locks out.

Go to the forum to check on radio code. I don't have the original manual or anything that has the code. Thankfully, before taking the radio out to get the serial number to try to call the dealer, I spotted a 4 digit number scrawled under the hood in yellow paint marker.....figure what the heck???? Tried it and it works.

So if your radio locks out, see if a previous mechanic may have written the code under the hood somewhere.

I used to do this on all PDIs that I performed at the dealer. Sometimes they are hand written near the VCATS label in the boot on later cars if the mechanic thinks about it.

U.S. spec XJ sedans and X100s from the mid to late 1990s don't require the code if the radio head unit is set to U.S. or North America. I think the XJS and XJ40 were the last Jags here in the States that needed the code.
