Default rear tires turning in neutral

on my XJS V 12 Is there a way to "adjust" the transmission to stop the rear wheels from turning in neutral.... I can stop them in Park but in neutral, they run a bit although I can stop them with my hands, when I release, they start back..... When I am at a stop, I normally have to have my brake on unless I am uphill...

Thanks.

AFAIK that's simply the 'sheer effect' of the fluid in the transmission. Nothing unusual about it. I can't think of any way around it, off hand.

Cheers

It is very unlikely you will be in neutral at a stop in normal driving conditions, unless there is a major traffic hold up. Then you would probably shift to park and shut of the engine anyway.

you are in drive at a stop in normal driving conditions ,not neutral. The car will drive forward on the flat, or maybe roll back on an uphill, all depends on your idle speed. If you speed up your idle it won't roll back on uphill, but will use more fuel and try to drive forward faster on the flat.
If you slow the idle it will roll back on uphill stops but may not drive forward on the flat, but you will more than likely have rough idle.

The factory recommended idle speed is probably the best balance you will get.

If you are in neutral on axel stands the wheels will spin with engine running, but you can stop them with your hands. If you put it in park the wheels won't spin.

Best bet is to stick a foot on the brake when you are stopped. Every automatic car I have owned has been slightly different.

I'm sorry, but you make it seem like you put your car in neutral at every stop? Why?Or is it in drive? In which case it will always creep forward some and you will need to keep the brake applied at stops

Way too much into this...... Just a question as I thought it was weird that in neutral, with wheels off ground, the rear wheels spin slowly. The answer was that this was "normal" and I was satisfied with that..... Just curious !!! Perhaps I did not explain my question clearly enough !!!! Thanks for all the responses.... No more necessary !!! lol.....

Erm... There is a way to stop it...:

USE THE HANDBRAKE

Put in N and pull the brake lever... Done. The car doesn't roll or creep anymore. You can take your foot off the brake pedal and all is good again...

There again, why are you running the car with it up on jackstands?

Oh yeah thats totally normal. Your post made it sound like you put the car into neutral at stop lights and it still requires your use of the brakes to hold the car in place.
