just had the cats removed from my 1985 xjs and man what a difference!

same sound, better power, not illegal in ohio as no emission check in my part of the state.

Tampering with an emission system on a car is generally against federal law, though I don't know what all is covered - maybe old cars are exempt, I really don't know.

With that being said - more power is a good thing!!!

if your car is older than 25 years old.in new york state you're fine, im removing my cats all together!

I bought my XJS with no cats installed, when I went to see if this was right or not I found that cats were not used/installed in cars prior to 1986 in Aust, Cars built after 1986 were fitted with cats but prior to that were not.
Mine looks like its never being touched and that's the way it came out the factory.
Again US and Europe are totally different, but here in Oz that's the way things are.

I have always wondered about gutting the cars on a 95 or 96 car. I imagine the Check Engine light would come on.

Do the cats on '95-'96 cars have sensors on them. If not, I don't believe the computer would know. Anyone got a comment on this?
