That... that is not pretty. M90, you 100% sure you can't find a wrecked, but running XJS for less than a grand and just swap the drivetrain over?

AS YOU CAN SEE lol...you are going to need a LITTLE bit of modification up front since there will no longer be 700lbs up there

They are quite a deep motor and the commodore has the lowest part of the sump at the front. My guess is they have not modified the sump.

So if you're selling off parts, do you have a set of injectors? I'm pretty sure I've got at least one that isn't right.

PM me a price for the set? I figure I'm going to send them out to have them cleaned and balanced.

Greg in France, read your description of removal of engine from a XJS and I would think you would have a problem removing the engine with that description, you would be lifting the whole front of the car you have not advised to remove the connection of the engine to the frame via the engine mounts.

May I say how very grateful I am, and no doubt all future readers will be, for this important correction. As posts as old as my original may not be edited, your perceptive contribution to this thread will be all the more valuable.

But as they got the V12 into the XJ40 shell, and into the first XJ saloon, I really do not know if any of this is true! I would not have thought the V8 is any wider than the V12, but maybe it is?

Greg
A V8 is 90 degrees. With spark plugs at the side of the engine requiring additional space to remove and replace.
A. V12 is 60 degrees which makes it narrower and the spark plugs are on top.

The XJ40 bodyshell was extensively redesigned for MY 1993 to accommodate the V12, as the Series III V12 saloon was discontinued in November 1992. Prior to that it was impossible to fit the V12 into an XJ40.
