I would be replacing that yellow fan, they crack and lose blades, with disastrous results. Plenty of info in Kirby Palm’s “Experience in a Book” and on forums.

JLM1010 (which I believe the correct part number for a V12) is very definitely a two piece design and they're the same both sides. The 3.6 uses a three piece C31116/2 - same as mount used by the inline 6 XJ's and probably the 4.0 and again same both sides so I don't know why somebody would think otherwise - they may have had different mounts on theirs but my books say they're the same both sides.

Don't run a damaged fan or engine mounts will be the least of your concerns, the fans once they age become brittle and can come apart without damage, mine had less than 50k miles on it but was 34 years old when I removed, there were numerous cracks near the hub.

Roger,

You undoubtedly need to change your fan. You can see the stress cracks that have been caused at the hub end. If one of those blades shears off, it can punch a hole through your bonnet and cause a huge mess.

IMLE, you should start by looking at the gearbox mount. Wear here allows the engine / gearbox unit to rock when being driven allowing the blades to touch the top of the fan shroud. Start by looking there before you worry about engine mounts, unless they are obviously shot.

Good luck

Paul

Thanks for the advice re the fan blades. Does anyone have advice about replacements? The Jaguar genuine item seems to be circa £250 but there are lots of others in the £50-80 range.

Cheers

One of those pays yer money and takes yer chances - I sure wouldn't be paying £250 though - that would push me down the electric route and dumping the mechanical fan completely (if I hadn't done that already) -

I think £250 is a rip off but I have been bitten by poor quality stuff once too often, for me it would depend on the source and that certainly wouldn't be somebody that didn't care about their reputation - I don't think you would have much issue from somebody that supports Jag parts for older cars - Barrat's / Manners / Berkshire Jags / Simply Performance etc - can't list them all -

Removed some text - just spotted that you have a 3.6 the bits I have are for a V12.

There can't be many aftermarket manufacturers for these fans. Quite frankly, I wouldn't be shocked it the genuine Jag fan is now made by the same guys who also sell it for 50-80GBP.

Spend the 50GBP, I'm sure it'll be the same as the 80GBP. All Eurospare, probably. As long as the plastic fan is black, and not yellow, and it is definitely a new fan blade.

Thanks everyone for your input. I will buy a mew fan from one of the reputable suppliers but not from Jaguar. As for there engine mounts I will explore the gearbox mountings in the next few days.

Thanks for your help BenKenobi.I have ordered a replacement from Berkshire Jaguar but having done so I now realise the V12 and the straight 6 use the same fan. I will check out the viscous coupling and may need to replace. Where about in Derbyshire are you. I am near Holmesfield, NE Derbyshire.

Cheers

I'm near Glossop - I have a new viscous and fan that will never be used.
