Replacing rear-view mirror
Hi Folks,
I have a 1996 XJS convertible. I was cleaning the inside of the windshield and knocked the rear view mirror off. Not just the mirror itself but the mount to the windshield also. I can't figure out how to get it back on. I would appreciate any help here.
Thanks in advance
Best
Hal

Ok. Apparently there is a metal base that comes off. It’s basically a slight rotation that disconnects the mirror from the base. I used some adjustable pliers to grip the base.
Mirror with base removed. The base is held in place by that metal triangle frame.
Base that should be glued to the windshield with minimal problems. You can see how the base is held in place by that metal frame in the mirror now.

mine was entirely removed way back when my windshield was replaced (I cracked the windshield pulling my own seat forward, yes that happened) and I remember reattaching the mirror to the glass with the glue they sell at the parts store.
