Default Routing a wire

I'm trying to figure out the most pain free way to route a wire from engine compartment to the main fuse box and so far I'm failing. Too many things on the way. Has anyone hints or tips how to do it? Shall I drill a hole somewhere?

What year is the car? Iirc certain years have more or less openings. You can try to use the main harness grommet left/right side of the enging bay.

Year is in my signature, 1986. It looks like the main harness does not go straight thru, there is a multi-wire connector. Does not seem useful.

See attached photo.

This is of my '87. I removed the body plug, and that will allow you access to below the driver's side (on a LHD car) dash board.

I just ran another wire though it today. I still need to cut a grommet, slip it over the wires, and seal it so the wires don't chafe against the body.

Thanks! Yes I saw that hole, but I couldn't figure out where to look inside of the car. Will give it another try.

Just stick a coat hanger or some other stiff wire in it. It'll come out somewhere between the bonnet handle and the brake pedal.

Not trying to be insulting here, but if your are connecting to the battery bus that runs along the engine firewall, be aware that the bus IS NOT fused in any way. A mistake here could be very exciting...

No, I'm aiming for fuse box. Anyhow, you have much more space there, I have clutch main cylinder on the way. Will investigate further when it cools down.

Success! Thanks a lot. Without you I could've never known there is a grommet.

Be careful routing the wires there. I did this with my cruise control wiring then found the wiring fouling on the bonnet release cable. It can be done, I re-routed mine on the inside to keep it away from the bonnet mechanism.
