Default Wire routing question from boot to dash

Gents,

I am planning to install a rear-looking parking-aid camera in the boot-lid of my '97 XK8 as they've become so price attractive on eBay and Taobao and it generates the green and yellow guiding lines very similar to late-model factory-installed versions but costs much much less.

Where can I easily route and conceal the video cable from the boot into the cabin and then to the dash? I haven't decided where should the display be attached as the dash is already quite cramped. A picture which shows the routing and/or mounting position is worth a thousand words and will be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Remove the rear seat and the arm rest assembly, you can then route the cable from the trunk , under the rear seat and thru the console to the dash.

Where to mount the monitor is up to you, do a search and you'll find many option, sun visor, replace the NAV unit, etc.

Here's a link to my solution...

By arm rest assembly, do you mean the entire assembly/cup-holder aft of the gear shift lever? Thanks for your advice.

Mine has no NAV unit, and I'm still searching for a location to mount the screen...

Yes, the complete arm rest assembly, comes out easily with removal of a couple screws.

Your problem is getting through the firewall between the luggage compartment and the passenger compartment. After that, routing under the rear seat base and the centre console is straightforward.

Why not go for a wireless reversing camera to save all the trouble?

Follow the route the hydraulic lines take from the pump in the boot on the right side of the car. It's easy to thread new cables through here then down under the rear seat.

You don't need to take the centre console out, just the rear seat.

Going wireless is an excellent suggestion, Graham. However, I'm worried if these wireless devices will generate excessively electrical noise interference as to affect the reception of the FM radio. I've experienced interference from USB phone-chargers plugged into the cigarette lighter socket, so I'm quite weary as these China-made products' quality varies very much between different makes. Do you have any specific product to recommend?

I don't have a recommendation - my XK has a reverse camera fitted as standard so I haven't needed to research products.

The wireless options I've looked at are hard wired to a power source within the luggage compartment which should reduce the chances of interference.

I have a Garmin sat nav fitted in place of the original sat nav and a Garmin reversing camera fitted in the boot finisher. They communicate by Bluetooth and I've never had a hint of any electrical interference to the radio, etc.
