Default Security system antenna remote fob

Does anybody know where the antenna for the remote key fob is located on a 1994 XJS 4.0. I have found the wire where it connects to the security module in front of the right rear light but I am unable to find any information on the antenna itself. Trying to improve the range. Thanks.

kansanbrit,

On RHD cars it was at the base of the b-post. Something makes me think it's probably in the same place on LHD cars.

Try holding the key FOB to your forehead. That makes your body an antenna and makes for a significant increase in range. I know this works on my 2013 XKR. Will try it on my XJS tomorrow.

There is a way of slightly improving the range by soldering a small piece of wire inside the remote. It was detailed here I believe how a few years ago. I will look for it. Also l can confirm the fob to the forehead procedure does work.

Default Normal range

Thanks guys. Would anybody like to comment on what would be considered a 'normal' range for the xjs remote?

2 to 4 feet. works better on the right side. Forehead method improves it a bit further.

On mine with fresh batteries it is more like 5-7 feet.

My '93 and also '92 has the antenna coiled up behind the right hand rear quarter lower trim pad assembly. It will be coiled up in the wiring harness.
Just pulled this out of my Jag update booklet.

Thanks for the info Rick. I actually found a tech sheet that says the antennas were supposed to be uncoiled and attached vertically to the panel during production but many weren't so that makes sense. I need to take a look at mine.
