Default Sending parts/cars from the US to UK or EU

It seems to me that a great number of XJS owners in the UK and EU areas would love to have the availability of used spares as we do here in the US. We will scrap cars that you guys would be delighted to bring back to life. I have 2 such cars myself. In this instance they both have good transmissions and I believe they have rebuildable engines. Many components are also good. The body on one is too far gone to be a viable resto candidate here. Anyway, if there was a guy in the UK or EU that we could ship to and he would then parcel out the spares it might be economically feasible to load up a shipping container or two and ship them over. Why hasn't anybody done this? Leroy Sorrell (jagxjsparts.com) in Florida is starting to stock pile parts and cars on the assumption they will be escalating in value in the not too distant future. He is interested in my 92 coupe; but I imagine I could get 2 to 3 times the price for it over there. Leroy would be interested in this business proposition as would many others, but a dealer/business partner is needed over there. Same idea would apply to our friends in Aussie land. Please comment. I know owners wanting to sell from here, and end users over there must have interest in this and maybe make it a possibility. PS I have joined several Facebook XJS groups; many are always in search of parts.

The shipping cost has tripled in 20 years or so. It was $800 back in nineties and last year my car was sent over from EU, cost me over $2k.

Just as a comparison...

Top notch XJ-S models are sold from the US to DE with shipping etc. for around EUR 7000 and are sold here for >15000...

Just so you know...

At the end of 2017 I bought a XJS convertible celebration in Florida for €9000,- and shipped to the Netherlands. Shipping costs and transport €950,-

DE = Deutschland.

Oh, and don't forget: When shipping from US to DE, you will pay (in addition to the VAT) a 10% tariff, as levied by the Zollamt. BTDT.

Plus 19% VAT on the price of vehicle and shipping... But it still works out easily. The amount of US imported XJ-S coming in is shocking.

Hi Steve and thanks for raising this.

I know that second hand parts (and some new ones) are cheaper in the US than the UK and have picked up a few bargains over the years. I rely on collecting from friends when on vacation in the US or them visiting us in the UK. Apart from shipping / import charges I think another problem is that land or property for storage of cars is so more expensive in the UK than the US so doing this commercially would be costly perhaps explaining the higher parts costs over here.

Anyway, a great idea and I hope it works out.

Cheers,
LeeP
