Default Side Marker lights Added to the turn Signal System

I am still working on lighting upgrades. Has anyone added the two front side marker lights to operate with the turn signal system and where did you tie the marker lights into the turn signal system?

You could try and fit another bulb and holder into the original light .......

Worthwhile mod.

I've done it to all my Jags and my TR6 is next.

I think Jose has actual details on his webpage.

There are various ways to do this but the easiest (and perhaps the way Jose recommends?) is this

Cheers

Basically there are two ways.

1. You don't want side marker lights. Then just disconnect the lighting wires from the flasher and connect the wires from the front flasher in parallel.
2. You want to have (two in one) side lights and turn signal. Then you need to adjust the body of the side flasher for a socket for a two-filament bulb (5W/21W) and bring the old lighting to 5W and bring parallel wires from the front flasher to 21W.

My way

Not necessary to have a 2 filament bulb; you hook the existing single filament bulb across the parking lamp hot wires- when the park lamps are on, the side marker bulb gets its ground through the turn signal filament in the park lamp and illuminates. When the turn signal is on with the park lights off, the side marker lamp gets its ground from the park lamp filament and flashes in time with the front turn signal.
When both the park lamps and turn signal are on, the side marker light flashes out of sync with the front turn signal because it has no ground path when both filaments are powered, but does get a ground during the off portion of the blink and illuminates.
Requires that the side marker lamp have the bulb base isolated from the body.
Also the bulb outage will probably be illuminated, which you will get with LED bulbs anyway.

Lots of great ideas to keep the side marker lights working as designed and adding the flasher to the same lamp. I think the shell of the lamp socket is grounded. I don't see how to wire the lamps on all of the time and flash at the same time unless the shell is not grounded. Has anyone taken the shell out and replace it with a two pin socket? The socket in my car looks like the factory used a hammer to install the socket and the lamp sits in the housing a an angle.

I found Jose's fix to be the easiest. It is copied from the floating ground theory from Ford.
All I had to do was insulate the marker lamps from the body of the car and wire the original signal light to the marker lights.
The only thing that is different is the lights alternate. OEM signal light on; marker light off; marker light on; OEM signal light off.
The marker lamps work normally when you turn on the parking lamps. They will blink when the turn signal is applied.
I did mine a few years ago and they still work.
See Jose's write up on the Series 1-11-111 forum

I got lucky on my car and I think my fix is much easier than Jose's. I purchased the Daniel Stern flasher unit and started to install the unit. Then I found that my side marker lights have factory wiring behind the light ready to wire into a new separate socket for the blinker system. The existing and the new side marker blinkers are all in sync and the marker lights stay on when the blinker is working.
